Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit
- Minimum Age: 15 years
- Maximum Age: 24 years (as per matriculation certificate/birth certificate)
- Relaxation: SC/ST - 5 years, OBC-NCL - 3 years, PwBD - 10 years, Ex-Servicemen - Service period + 3 years (minimum 6 months continuous service required)
Educational Qualification
- 10th class (10+2 system) with minimum 50% aggregate marks from a recognized board
- National Trade Certificate in relevant trade issued by NCVT/SCVT
- Candidates with National Trade Certificate in "Wood Work Technician" under CTS are eligible for Carpenter trade
Medical Fitness
Candidates must meet the prescribed physical fitness standards under the Apprentices Act, 1961. A medical certificate signed by a Government Gazetted Doctor (Assistant Surgeon or above) from Central/State Hospital is mandatory.
Reservation Details
- Reservations applicable for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen as per Railway Board rules.
- 4% seats reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).
- Ex-Servicemen reservation included in notified slots; unfilled ESM slots may be filled from other candidates.
- Specific eligibility criteria for PwBD candidates based on type of trade (e.g., lower limb damage, finger loss, etc.).

Application Process
- Apply online only through the official RRC-ER website (www.rrcer.org).

- On submission, a Registration Number will be generated. Keep it safe for future reference.
- Once submitted, no corrections or alterations will be allowed in the application.
- Incomplete or incorrect applications will be rejected.
Selection Process
- Merit list based on average marks of 10th and ITI (equal weightage).
- Separate trade/unit/community-wise merit list will be prepared (no centralized merit list).
- Tie-breaker: Older candidate preferred. If DOB same, earlier matriculation pass-out considered.
- Candidates up to 1.5 times of total notified slots will be called for Document Verification (DV).
- Final selection is subject to document verification and medical fitness.
Other Important Information
- This notification is for apprenticeship training only and does not guarantee employment in the railways.
- Stipend will be paid at prescribed rates under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
- 20% of future vacancies in Level-1 recruitment (erstwhile Group D posts, Grade Pay Rs. 1800/-) may be filled from Course Completed Act Apprentices trained in Railway establishments and holding National Apprenticeship Certificates, subject to suitability and qualifying in written exam.
- RRC-ER does not authorize any coaching/facilitation centers. Beware of fraudulent elements promising selection.
- Any disputes will be settled under the jurisdiction of competent court of Kolkata.
