Minimum Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a full-time Degree in Engineering with 65% marks (average of all semesters, irrespective of institute weightage) in any of the seven advertised disciplines—Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, and Metallurgy.

The Engineering Degree must be obtained through a regular, full-time course from Universities/Institutions recognized or accredited by UGC/AICTE or related government councils.

Medical Standards

All candidates must meet SAIL’s prescribed medical standards. Key requirements include:

• Minimum Weight: 45 kg
• Minimum Height: 155 cm (relaxation for female candidates)
• Vision Standards: Myopia or Hypermetropia not exceeding ± 4.00 in each eye
• No squint or colour blindness (partial or full)
• Eligible PwBD: Only OA/OL/OAL categories with minimum 40% disability and Dwarfism (DW)

Selection Process

The selection process consists of an Online Examination (CBT), followed by Group Discussion and Interview. Candidates must qualify in each stage as per category-wise minimum percentile requirements.

Computer Based Test (CBT)

• Total Marks: 200
• Domain Knowledge Test: 100 marks (40 minutes)
• Aptitude Test: 100 marks (80 minutes)
• Aptitude Sections: Quantitative Aptitude, English, Reasoning, General Awareness (25 marks each)
• Minimum Percentile: UR/EWS – 50, SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD – 40

Group Discussion & Interview

• Shortlisting: 1:3 ratio (discipline & category-wise)
• Final Merit Weightage: CBT – 75%, GD – 10%, Interview – 15%
• Tie-Breaking: Higher CBT marks; if still tied, higher B.E./B.Tech marks

Biometric Verification

Photo and thumb impression will be captured during CBT, GD/Interview, and Joining. Any mismatch will result in cancellation of candidature.

Training and Probation

• Training Duration: 1 year (as Apprentices under Apprentices Act, 1961)
• Probation Duration: 1 year after training

Emoluments

• Basic Pay during Training: ₹50,000 per month (E1 Grade)
• After Training: Assistant Manager (E1) – ₹60,000–1,80,000 pay scale
• CTC: Approximately ₹16–17 Lakhs per annum (excluding PRP and allowances)
• Benefits: DA, HRA/Housing, Medical Facilities, PF, Gratuity, Leave Encashment, Perquisites as per rules

Placement

Selected candidates can be posted at any Plant, Unit, or Mines location of SAIL across India. Transfers are not permitted for the first four years (two years for departmental candidates).

• Upload recent passport-size photograph (up to 50 KB) and signature (up to 20 KB).
• Application number is generated only after successful fee payment.
• Take printout of the final submitted application.
• No request for editing submitted applications will be entertained.
• Incorrect/false information will result in cancellation of candidature.

• Minimum employment age is 18 years.
• Candidates working in Govt./PSUs/Autonomous bodies must produce NOC during interview.
• SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/EWS/PwBD certificates must be in Central Govt. prescribed format.
• Category once selected in application form cannot be changed.
• SAIL reserves the right to cancel or modify requirements without prior notice.
• Shortlisted candidates must download call letters from SAIL website; no separate communication will be sent.
